Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce fresh water from sea water at a low cost, by evaporating sea water in a closed chamger by a solar heat and condensing the vapor by a coolant of sea water at a low temperature obtained from the deep sea.
CONSTITUTION: A heating pool 2 is placed on the seashore but intercepted by a mole 1. The bottom level of the heating pool 2 is kept lower than the surface level of the sea. The heating pool is closed at its upper side by a transparent house member 5. The sea water is carried into the heating pool 2. The pool 2 is provided with a cooling water pipe 3 above the water level. Cool sea water from the deep sea is carried from a collector 9, through a doncuit 11 and a feeding pipe 6 to the cooling water pipe 3 by a pump 7, and discharged through a discharge pipe 8. The conduit 11 and the feeding pipe 6 are covered by heat insulative matrial. The sea water in the heating pool 2 is heated at about 40°C or higher by a solar heat, so that the humidity in the transparent house becomes about 80% or more. The vapor is easily condensed by contact with the pipe 3 through which sea water at about 10°C or lower is passing. Thus, fresh water is obtained and collected in a groove 4.
