Abstract
PURPOSE: To suppress the consumption of a carbonaceous adsorbent having been inactivated by a dry type desulfurization method and improve the adsorption capacity after regeneration by beforehand contacting said adsorbent with an ammonia gas then activating the same in an inert gas.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of heating and regenerating in an inert gas atmosphere the carbonaceous adsorbent which has been used in dry type desulfurization and has adsorbed sulfuric acids, said inactivated adsorbent is beforehand contacted with an inert gas contg. ammonia from a line 4, to convert part or the whole of the sulfuric acid having been adsorbed in the adsorbent to ammonium salt such as acid ammonium sulfate and ammonium sulfate. After this the adsorbent flows down the inside of a heat exchanger pipe 6 and is heated and regenerated in an inert gas atmosphere. If the adsorbent is regenerated in this way, it is not consumed and nevertheless the regenerated adsorbent is improved of SOx adsorption capacity.
