Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform efficient treatment by a method wherein ammonia is first adsorbed by a catalyst layer consisting of active carbon, etc., before contacting with a discharged gas thereafter the catalyst is brought into contact with the discharged gas at a specified temperature.
CONSTITUTION: Discharged gas which contains sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide is guided through line 1 into a catalyst reactor 2. The reactor 2 is packed with, as a fluidized bed, a catalyst consisting of active carbon or metallic oxide carrying active carbon which has adsorbed ammonia in advance. The said discharged gas is brought into contact with the catalyst at a temperature below 200°C. This allows sulfur oxide in the discharged gas to be adsorbed by the catalyst and removed as sulfuric acid and ammonium hydrogen sulfate, while, nitrogen oxide is reduced to nitrogen by ammonia and the catalyst. The process provides an efficient treatment at low temperatures below 200°C.
