Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove nitrogen oxides within an exhaust gas effectively at a low temperature and maintain the activity of a catalyst by a mechanism wherein ammonia is added to an exhaust gas by an ammonia reduction method of an exhaust gas and stayed for a period of time, thereafter passed through a catalyst layer.
CONSTITUTION: Firstly, ammonia is added to an exhaust gas which contains nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides and the stay time above 1 sec. is provided to convert sulfur trioxide and sulfur dioxide within sulfur oxides to the mist of ammonium sulphate. Thereafter., this exhaust gas is contacted with a catalyst at 150W330°C to carry out the denitrification reaction. Thereby, the activity of a catalyst is maintaind while the accumulation of ammonium sulphate onto a catalyst is prevented and the treatment of an exhaust gas is carried out economically at a low temperature.
