Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable miniaturization to be compatible with an improved antivibration, by a method wherein balance axes which have balance weights of different sizes from each other and rotate in reverse direction to each other at a number of revolutions which doubles that of a crank shaft, are positioned symmetrically against a cylinder axis. CONSTITUTION:A connecting rod 4, whose one end is supported at a crank shaft 3 of a 4-cylinder engine by means of a pin 5, has the other end which is supported at a piston 7 by means of a pin 6. A pair of balance shafts 9 and 10, which are positioned approximately symmetrically against a cylinder axial line 8, are located on approximately parallel to a crank shaft line 8. The safts 9 and 10 are provided with balance weights 11 and 12 having different weights from each other so that both shafts can point downward at a dead point time on the first cylinder. The two shafts 9 and 10 are connected together by means of a crank shaft 3, gears 13, and a chain 14 so that they rotate at a number of revolutions which doubles that of the crank shaft 3.
