Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide means to eliminate the vibrations due to both the pitching and yawing moments in a balancing device for a 4-cylinder reciprocating engine by attaching a balancing gear to the shaft and adding or removing predetermined weights to or from the reciprocating engine. CONSTITUTION:Four crank pins 21-24 are formed on a crank shaft 1 at 90 deg. intervals with valance weights 51-54 attached to the respective pins 21-24 about 180 deg. opposite of the pins. In such 4-cylinder 90 deg. crank type engine, the balance weights 51-54 are set at about 100% balance. A balance gear 6 with an eccentric weight 6a attached thereto is fixed to one end of the crank shaft 1, said gear 6 being engaged to a balance gear 7 with an eccentric weight 7a similarly attached thereto. Predetermined weight 83 and 84 are attached to the third and the fourth pistons 43 and 44, the weights thereof generating couples of force which cancel out the pitching and yawing moments due to the pistons.
