Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to make all of connecting rods for common use by a method wherein the relations of the masses of reciprocating parts for respective cylinders are specified and the attaching positions of balance weights are contrived in the tandem-type three cylinders internal-combustion engine in which the phase angles between neighboring cylinders are defined at 180 deg.. CONSTITUTION:Pistons 13-33 in first to third cylinders 1-3 are connected to respective crank pins 12-32 in a crank shaft 4 through connecting rods 15-35 having the same sizes and the same configurations respectively. In this case, the cylinders 1, 3 are arranged in the same phase but the cylinder 2 is arranged at a position having the phase angle of 180 deg. with respect to the cylinders 1, 3. The masses of the reciprocating parts in the cylinders 1, 3 are made equal while the mass of the reciprocating part of the cylinder 2 is made about two or just two times of the above-described masses. The balances among them are regulated by providing balance weights 9, 9 at positions of phase angles 180 deg. with respect to respective crank pins 12, 32 on both of crank arms 31 in the cylinders 1, 3.
