Abstract

The vibration damper for i.c. engines consists of a steel plate (1) mounted through a hole (4) onto the end of the crankshaft. A counter weight (3) is attached to the plate (1) by a flexible medium such as rubber (2) which is formed in the shape of a wedge. The mass of the balancing weight and the stiffness of the rubber are arranged to have a natural frequency of oscillation in the radial direction of at least 1.5 times the maximum rotational frequency of the crankshaft. The steel fixing plate (1) has a flanged edge to give greater strength.
