Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce primary and secondary vibrations of an engine by arranging an internal combustion engine of odd numbers of cylinders multiple munbers of balance shafts which are equal in length and rotate each other in reverse directions at a phase of 180 deg.. CONSTITUTION:In parallel with a crankshaft 3 of an odd numbered cylinder internal combustion engine comprising 5 pieces of pistons 2', balance shafts 11, 12 and 13 are supported by a pulley 5. Shaft 11 with balancers 14 and 14' is rotated twice the speed of the crankshaft 3. Shaft 12 with balancers 15 and 15' are rotated in the reverse direction at the same speed as the shaft 11, and shaft 13 with balancers 16 and 16' is rotated in the reverse direction at half the speed of the shaft 11. The transmission to these is undertaken by gears 8, 9 and 10, and the shafts 11, 12 and 13 are equal in length and the balancers 14, 15 and 16 have the same mass. The shafts 11, 12 and 13 have a phase of 180 deg. mutually by the interrelation of the gears 8, 9 and 10.
