Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the iron coated composite powder which provides high- strength sintered body having high-performance self-lubricity by subjecting the fine particle surface to be plated to activation treatment by means of noble metal salts then coating the same by metals other than iron and further depositing iron on the outermost layer thereof.
CONSTITUTION: The fine particles to be plated on MoS2, graphite boron nitride, etc. is treated with an aqueous soln. of noble metal salts, after which it is thermally decomposed to allow a noble metal layer to form on the fine particle surfaces. The fine particles to be plated having undergone such activation treatment are plated with metals other than iron, for example, metals such as Sn, Ni or Cu, of b.p. higher than that of Fe, by a known method. Next, this coated powder, iron chloride powder and metal powder of higher ionization tendency than iron, which is a reducing medium, are mixed. After the mixing, reaction takes place and when some fume of a white color beings to emit, water or dilute hydrochloric acid is added to progress reaction, whereby iron is deposited uniformly on the outermost layer of the coated powder.
