Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a dense and uniform cupric oxide coating by treating copper or a copper alloy by a solution containing a specified amount of sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, a nonionic or an anionic surface active agent.
CONSTITUTION: The copper or copper alloy is treated by the solution containing 2W27g/l of sulfuric acid and 30g/l or more of hydrogen peroxide, wherein a mole ratio of hydrogen peroxide against sulfuric acid is 17 or more, as well as 1W200ppm of the nonionic or anionic surface active agent. Thereby, the dense and uniform cupric oxide coating is obtained economically and easily in a sufficient thickness.
