Abstract

PURPOSE: To stably manufacture the alloy particle with high magnetic characteristic and the needle property, by coating the surface of the needlelike iron compound particle with cobalt and chromium hydroxide, and by executing the heat treatment within the desirable nonreducing atmosphere, for obtaining the needlelike oxide particle which is then to be treated by the reducing treatment.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of the needlelike iron compound particle is coated with both of cobalt and chromium hydroxide; after that, it is desired that the particle is heat treated within the nonreducing atmosphere; hereupon, depending on the difference between the diffusion coefficients of cobalt and chromium, cobalt diffuses from the surface into the interior of particle and forms a solid solution with the iron oxide of the interior; on the other hand, chromium of small diffusion coefficient resides in the surface of particle. The amount of thus obtained Fe - Co particle is small; however, in the surface of particle, chromium layer distributes at high concentration; especially, this oxide particle hardly causes the interglanular sintering at the reducing treatment, and maintains the initial needle property at good condition.
