Abstract

PURPOSE: To form copper coating layers lowering the rate of mixing a reducing agent into the resulting powder by adding crystals of copper salts to a slurry contg. metal particles to be coated with copper and a copper ion reducing agent in an amount exceeding the solubility to the amount of water in the slurry.
CONSTITUTION: Metal particles such as lead powder are added to a fixed amount of water, and a surfactant rendering the particles hydrophilic may be added. To this aqueous metal particle suspension is added a reducing agent made of metal such as zinc or iron having ionization tendency larger than that of copper, and by mechanical agitation a slurry consisting of the particles and the reducing agent is prepared. To this slurry are then added crystals of copper salts such as copper sulfate in an amount exceeding the solubility to the amount of water in the slurry. After the reaction, sieving, dehydration, washing and drying are carried out by usual methods to manufacture copper coated metal particles having the desired copper content. By this method the copper content of the copper coated particles can be controlled according to the purpose, and the amount of the reducing agent used can be decreased as compared to a conventional method.
