Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the storage stability of sodium percarbonate particles as an oxidizing bleaching agent without lowering the water solubility and the available oxygen content by treating the particles with an aq. soln. of an alkaline earth metal salt to form nonhygroscopic thin films on the particle surfaces.
CONSTITUTION: Particles of sodium percarbonate 2Na2CO3 .3H2O2 are stabilized by being treated with an aq. soln. of an alkaline earth metal salt such as magnesium sulfate, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, strontium chloride or barium chloride. The amt. of the salt used is 0.07W0.3, pref. 0.1W0.2 mol to 1 mol of sodium percarbonate with an average diameter of 100W1000μ.
