Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a slime controlling agent for paper-manufacturing industry, with low consumption of a brominating agent, in a short time, in high yield, by brominating m-nitroacetophenone in an aqueous medium.
CONSTITUTION: m-Nitroacetophenone is dispersed in an aqueous medium pref. as fine powder, and made to react with a brominating agent added thereto obtain m- nitro-ω-bromoacetophenone. The brominating agent is pref. bromine.
