Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize an aqueous solution of sulfite such as Na2SO3, for long periods of time, by adding erythorbic acid (salt) or L-ascorbic acid (salt) to the solution.
CONSTITUTION: To an aqueous solution of sulfite, such as Na2SO3, erythorbic acid (salt) or L-ascorbic acid (salt) is added in amount of at least 0.3%, preferably 0.5W1% based on the sulfite. This method enables to dissolve a large amount of sulfite powder in water at once and storage, and thus is effective in saving labor in operaion. When this stabilized sulfite solution is used for O2 removal, the stabilizer itself in the solution acts as a deoxygenation agent, thereby enhancing deoxygenation efficiency.
