Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve combustion in a light load region in particular, by protruding swirl causing guide walls around the exhaust valve port and intake valve ports of the wall of a combustion chamber, dividing an intake passage into a plurality of branch passages and installing a throttle valve in each branch passage.
CONSTITUTION: Two intake valve ports 5, 5' and an exhaust valve port 6 are opened into the top of a combustion chamber 4 eccentrically thereto. Swirl-causing guide walls 14, 14' shaped as an arc are protruded on the wall of the combustion chamber around the exhaust valve port 6 and the intake valve port 5. Intake branch passages 20, 20' divided from an intake passage 9 are connected to the intake valve ports 5, 5'. The first throttle valve 21 is installed between a carburetor 19 and the divided portions of the passages 20, 20'. The second throttle valve 22 is installed at the inlet portion of one intake branch passage 20' and interlocked with the first throttle valve 21 through a link mechanism 25. The second throttle valve 22 is opened only in a heavy load region to appropriately control the flowing velocity of a mixture.
