Abstract
PURPOSE: To decrease and to disperse the power of poured molten steel flow into wide surface range of the molten steel, by making a portion of the flow collide with a screen installed between an upward immersed nozzle and a solidifying wall, and by making the other portion of the poured molten steel flow rise upward to the surface of the molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: A screen 8 is installed between an upward nozzle 7' immersed in molten steel 4 contained in a casting mold 3 and a solidifying wall 7, and the ratio l2/l1, where l2 is the breadth of the screen 8, l1 is the breadth of the flow of poured molten steel M, is set in the range about 0.1W0.6. The flow M of the poured molten steel collides with the screen 8 and divides into a flow which proceeds to the surface of the molten steel 5 and flows (m), (m) which go around the both side of the screen 8 and collide with the surface 5 of the molten steel near the point where the center of the flow M intersects the molten steel surface 5. The fluxes of divided flows (m), (m) are smaller than that of the original flow, so that their energy decreases remarkably, hence no waves are formed on the molten steel surface 5.
