Abstract
PURPOSE:To agitate molten metal and effectively perform out-of-furnace secondary refining by dipping a cylinder having an open end into molten steel at the specific depth, flowing molten steel in the cylinder into the cylinder under periodically varying pressures in the cylinder and flowing the same out from the cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder 6 made of refractory material is immersed in the molten steel 5 in a ladle 1 in such a manner that its bottom end positions below >=100mm. from the surface of the molten steel. Two systems of pipings 11, 12 are connected to the top end of the cylinder 6. The piping 11 is connected to a high pressure N2 gas pipe of 10kg/mm.<2> in main pressure as a high pressure source and the piping 12 is connected to a steam ejector of 100 Torr degree of evacuation as a pressure reducing source. The solenoid valves 16, 17 in both pipings 11, 12 are opened and closed by the timers in a controller 18 to control the frequencies of the pressure fluctuations in the cylinder. In addition, the amplitudes of the pressure fluctuations in the cylinder are detected by a pressure detector 19 and the openings of the flow control valves 14, 15 in both pipings 11, 12 are controlled by the controller 18, whereby the amplitudes of the pressure fluctuations are controlled. Agitating of the molten steel 5 is rationally accomplished and secondary refining such as deoxidizing or component controlling is effectively accomplished.
