Abstract
PURPOSE:To effectively prevent a slag from flowing out downwardly by a method wherein the atmosphere in a converter is sealed and decompressed in a steel tapping operation, particularly at the final stage of the tapping operation, so as to regulate the flow velocity of the molten steel at a taphole wherein the velocity is determined by the thickness of the slag layer, the depth of the molten steel and the difference between the pressure of the furnace atmosphere and the ambient pressure. CONSTITUTION:During when the tapping process for tapping the molten steel from the converter through the taphole 10 by tilting the furnace body 1 is progressing, and particularly at the final stage of the process, a furnace port 3 is closed. Then the residual amount of the molten steel m in the converter is decreased, and immediately before the depth of the molten steel m becomes such that the vortex generated by the flow of the molten steel m at the taphole 10 rolls in the slag s, the opening of a regulating valve 8 is gradually enlarged. Consequently, mixing of the slag s is effectively prevented from mixing into the molten steel m to flow into a ladle 9 together with the steel m. After the selective outflow of the molten steel m is completed, the valve 8 is fully opened to further reduce the pressure in the converter rapidly, thereby preventing the slag s from flowing out via the taphole 10.
