Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform vacuum decarbonization of chromium-contg. steel by performing siphoning-discharging of the molten steel such a way that the molten steel remains at a minimum during discharging as well, and supplying oxygen to the molten steel surface at a specific flow rate through a lance having a de Laval type nozzle by maintaining the perpendicular distance between the lance and the molten steel level during siphoning at specific distances.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of decarbonizing and refining chromium-contg. steel with gaseous oxygen in an oscillation type vacuum treatment device, the siphoning-discharging of the molten steel are so regulated that the amt. of the molten steel in a vacuum vessel during discharging is 3W6% the total amt. of the molten steel. Here, a lance having, in its leading end, a de Laval nozzle designed to provide the prescribed Mach number of the de Laval nozzle under the upper limit pressure of the fluctuation width of the atmospheric pressure in the vessel during blowing is provided in the vacuum vessel, and oxygen is supplied through this lance to the molten metal surface at 10W30Nm3/h.t flow rates and the perpendicular distance between the lance and the molten steel surface during siphoning is maintained at 1W2m.
