Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a ketone of high purity, by heat-treating a mixture of a crude ketone with a waste aqueous solution of an alkali metallic hydroxide in the homogeneous phase, feeding a fresh aqueous solution of an alkali metallic hydroxide to a multistage rectifying column continuously, and bringing the crude ketone into the countercurrent contact with the fresh aqueous solution.
CONSTITUTION: A waste aqueous solution, containing an alkali metallic hydroxide, preferably NaOH, and expelled from the bottom of a multistage rectifying column in a concentration of 0.02W0.1wt% in an amount enough to form the homogeneous phase, i.e. 1/12W1/3, based on a crude ketone, is mixed with the crude ketone containing a very small amount of an aldehyde, preferably crude acetone obtained by the cumene method, and heat-treated at 10W60°C to convert the aldehyde into compounds having a high boiling point. The resultant mixture is then fed into the multistage rectifying column and rectified by feeding a fresh aqueous solution of the alkali metallic hydroxide in a concentration of 0.1W5wt% continuously above the feed point of the crude ketone in an amount of 1/100W1/7 that of the crude ketone. The method inhibits the dissociation of the high-boiling compounds and provides the purified ketone with a low content of the aldehyde.
