Abstract
PURPOSE: To inactivate an alkaline substance contained in an ethynylcarbinol compound very readily and completely without the decomposition reaction, by the addition of an especially mono- or polybasic acid having a specific (primary) dissociation constant to the ethynylcarbinol compound.
CONSTITUTION: A monobasic acid having a dissociation constant of 2×10-5W1× 10-2 (at 25°C), e.g. formic or lactic acid, preferably in an amount of 100W500% theoretical equivalent based only on the monoacidic group, or a polybasic acid having a primary dissociation constant of 2×10-5W1×10-2 (at 25°C), e.g. phosphoric or itaconic acid, preferably in an amount of 40W500% theoretical equivalent based only on the monoacidic group is added to an ethynylcarbinol compound containing a small amount of an alkaline substance expressed by the formula, to inactivate the alkaline substance. The presence of the alkaline substance decomposes the ethynylcarbinol compound during distillation to generate acetylene and a ketone and incurs a very dangerous state.
