Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain deoxygenating composition which exhibits excellent reaction activity with oxygen in air and will be sparingly decomposed in the presence of water, by mixing a metal component having deoxygenation activity with a deoxygenation controlling component which is obtained by treating an adhesive adsorbent with an acid and supporting an electrolyte on the resulting adsorbent.
CONSTITUTION: A powdered or finely granulated metal A such as Fe, Cu, Mn, etc. having deoxygenation activity is mixed with a deoxygenation controlling component B to obtain a deoxygenating composition, said deoxygenation controlling component B being obtained by treating an adhesive adsorbent such as powdered or finely granulated zeolite, kaolin, etc. with an acid, supporting an electrolyte on the resulting adsorbent and adding water to the resulting material to retain a proper quantity of water. The acid treatment is carried out by contacting the adhesive adsorbent with an acidic aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc. The electrolyte is supported on the adhesive adsorbent by contacting the clayish adsorbent with a solution containing an electrolyte such as alkali metal halide, etc. The ratio of AWB is not critical, but generally the weight ratio of BWA is 0.05W5.
