Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain deoxygenating composition which exhibits excellent reaction activity with oxygen in air and will be sparingly decomposed in the presence of water, by mixing a metal component having deoxygenation activity with a deoxygenation controlling component which is obtained by supporting an electrolyte on a porous filler and adding a proper quantity of water.
CONSTITUTION: A powdered or finely granulated metal A such as Fe, Cu, Mn, etc. having deoxygenation activity is mixed with a deoxygenation controlling component B to obtain a deoxygenating composition, said deoxygenation controlling component B being obtained by supporting an electrolyte on a porous filler such as powdered or finely granulated zeolite, kaolin, etc. and adding water to the resulting substance to retain a proper amount of water. Examples of the electrolytes include alkali metal halides and alkaline earth metal halides. The electrolyte is used in an amount ranging from 0.1W50 parts per 100 parts of the porous filler.
