Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the sensitivity and durability, by surrounding the magnetic resistance (MR) elements of a plurality of arrangements by magnetic substance, providing the magnetic yoke so that the magnetic substance can contact with both the ends of arranging direction of MR elements, and exerting the bias magnetic field to each MR element uniformly. CONSTITUTION:In a head providing a plurality of MR elements 1 having harbour pole electrodes, all the MR elements are enclosed with the magnetic substance 14 having good wear resistance such as ferrite. A groove 17 is provided in the magnetic substance 14 and the MR elements 1 are inserted in the groove 17. At both the ends of arranging direction of the elements 1 of the magnetic substance 14, the magnetic yoke 15 with the energizing winding 16 is magnetically coupled. When a control current is allowed to flow to the winding 16, the distribution of produced magnetic flux is made uniform in the magnetic substance 14, and uniform bias magnetic field is applied to each of the MR elements 1. Since the magnetic substance 14 acts like magnetic shield too, the output at the short wave region can be increased. Thus, the MR heads with good characteristics can be obtained.
