CONSTITUTION:A bias magnetic field soft magnetic material 4 is distributed adjacently to a magnetic reluctance effect (MR) element 1, and the material 4 is extended to the upper and lower parts of a head. Then a yoke 5 is added to form a magnetic circuit by means of a permanent magnet or an electromagnet wound with a coil 6. If the material 4 is divided into sections at the positions of MR elements 1 (figure c), the efficiency is increased to facilitate an easy fine adjustment of a bias magnetic field.
