Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve electromagnetic conversion efficiency, by providing plural main magnetic poles and singular or plural reflux magnetic poles, in a multichannel magnetic head for vertical magnetization recording, and setting areas of their ends to a prescribed ratio. CONSTITUTION:In a multichannel magnetic head for vertical magnetization recording, 4 main magnetic poles 10-13 and 1 reflux magnetic pole 14 are provided on a slider 15, and a coil 16 is wound around the main magnetic poles 10-13. A recording medium consists of a nonmagnetic substrate 3, a magnetic layer 4 and a vertical magnetization magnetic substance layer 5. When a recording current flows to the coil 16, a closed magnetic path passing through the magnetic substance layer 4 from the main magnetic poles 10-13 and returning to the reflux magnetic pole 14 is formed, and the electromagnetic conversion efficiency is improved. Also, in order to magnetize only the vertical magnetization magnetic substance layer 5 being directly under the main magnetic poles 10-13, the ratio of the sum of areas of the ends of the main magnetic poles, to the area of the end of the reflux magnetic pole 14 is set to >=(1:6).
