Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable both recording and reproducing functions of a magnetic head using a vertical recording system by connecting a ferromagnetic substance plate to an electrostrictive material and also by arranging a magnetic pole, obtained by providing an electrode to the electromagnetic material, in a magnetic field induced by a DC magnetic-field generator. CONSTITUTION:Electrostrictive material layers 6 and 7 contract by a signal voltage applied between terminals 10 and 11, and consequently reverse magnetic strain acts on ferromagnetic thin plate 5 to change magnetic permeability greatly. Exciting coil 18 of auxiliary magnetic pole 16 is applied with a direct current, and main magnetic pole 15 with an even DC magnetic field. Since the magnetic permeability of thin plate 5 changes greatly, vertical magnetic field intensity at its flank changes correspondingly, so that recording on medium 3 will be possible. To reproduce signals recorded on medium 3, the same operations as the recording are performed backward and the principle is completely the same.
