Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a sintered alloy with improved wear resistance at high temp. by dispersing a specified amount of a specified 3-component intermetallic compound as a hard substance in a matrix in which 2 kinds of iron alloys exist.
CONSTITUTION: Alloy A consisting of 2W4% Cr, 0.2W4.0% Mo, 0.2W0.4% V, 0.6W1.2% C and the balance Fe and alloy B consisting of 5.5W7.5% Co, 0.5W3% Ni, 0.5W3% Mo, 0.6W1.2% C and the balance Fe are allowd to exist in spots by 25W75% and 75W25%, respectively to form a matrix. A Co-Mo-Si alloy as hard phase C and/or an Fe-Mo-Si alloy as hard phase D is then dispersed in the matrix by 3W15%. Powders of alloys A, B except carbon are mixed with graphite powder or the like, and to the mixture are added powders of hard phases C, D. They are molded and sintered to obtain a sintered alloy suitably mainly for use as a material for a valve seat of an internal combustion engine.
