Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the wear resistance and airtightness of sintered iron parts by dispersing several kinds of specified compounds in the matrix structure of tempered martensite formed.
CONSTITUTION: Cr-contg. stainless steel powder, graphite powder and Co-Mo-Cr- Si alloy powder are mixed and press molded into a predetermined shape. To the mixture may be added alloy powder not perfectly alloyed and composed of Ni, Mo, Cu and the balance essentially Fe. The molding is then sintered, martensite transformation is caused in the sintered body by suitably adjusting the cooling rate, and the body is treated with steam to form iron oxide. Thus, Cr carbide, iron oxide and Co-Mo-Cr-Si intermetallic compound are dispersed in the martensite matrix structure.
