Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high speed in the circuit and to make the circuit suitable for optical communication, by connecting a GaAs-FET to a laser in series to obtain a driving element, and simultaneously applying a DC bias voltage and a signal output voltage to a FET gate. CONSTITUTION:A drain 47 of the GaAs-FET 40 and a cathode 26 of the laser 25 are connected. An anode of the laser 25 is grounded. A negative voltage -Vcc is applied to a source of the FET 40. A voltage -Vc(Vc<Vcc) of a power source terminal 42 is divided by resistors 43 and 44, and applied to a gate of the FET 40 as a DC bias voltage. Under this condition, a signal is inputted to a base 46 of a transistor 41, and its output signal is overlapped on the DC bias and applied to a gate 45. Thus, a current is flowed to the FET and the laser 25 is driven. By using the GaAs-FET which can be operated at a high speed, the speed of the driving circuit can be made high so that the circuit is suitable for optical communications.
