Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a soft magnetic alloy for a magnetic head material with superior workability, wear resistance and magnetic characteristics by adding Nb and Zr to "78 Permalloy".
CONSTITUTION: An Ni alloy is composed of 75W85% Ni, 1W5% Nb, 0.1W4% Mo, <1% Mn and the balance Fe, and when it is required to enhance the wear resistance of the alloy, <0.5% Zr is added to the alloy. An ingot of this alloy is hot rolled and cold rolled. The resulting sheet is then annealed in a hydrogen atmosphere and slowly cooled to obtain a soft magnetic alloy for a magnetic head material with ≤150 Vickers hardness, ≥7,500G magnetic flux density, superior workability and wear resistance.
