Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture the title alloy for a magnetic head core by forming a Cr oxide film with superior wear resistance on the surface of a Cr-contg. Ni-Fe alloy and adding other specified element to improve the adherence of this film.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy consisting of Ni 60W85%, Cr 1W8%, Si<0.5%, Mn< 0.5%, Mo<6%, one or more out of Al, Zr, V, Nb, Ti, Y, Sc, Hf and rare eatth elements (elements of atomic no. 57W71) 0.005W1.0%, and the balance Fe. This alloy is melted, cast, hot rolled, cold rolled to 0.1mm thickness, and punched to work a core. This core is magnetically annealed and heated at 700W1200°C in a wet gas of the dew point 0W+40°C to form a not less than 0.5μ thick Cr oxide film having superior wear resistance and adherence to the ground alloy.
