Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an amorphous alloy having high hardness, superior wear resistance and high permeability over a wide compsn. range, and consisting of Co and/or Fe, Nb, Ni and B or B+Si.
CONSTITUTION: The amorphous alloy is represented by the following structural formula: (T1-x-yNbxNiy)1-zXz [where T is Co and/or Fe, X is B or B+Si (Si ≤ 25 atomic %), x=0.005 W 0.1, y=0.005 W 0.3 and z=0.015 W0.35]. In case of T=Co+Fe, the Fe content is 4 W 15 atomic % of the total amt. of (Co+Fe+Nb+ Ni). Since Nb and Ni are contained at the same time, superior mechanical and magnetic characteristics are exhibited over a wide compsn. range. The permeability is hardly lowered by heat treatment up to about 200°C in an assembling process, and hence the alloy is used in a magnetic device such as magnetic head.
