Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a permanent magnet material from which a magnet with a high performance can be inexpensively obtained containing Sm, Cu, Fe and Zr in a predetermined ratio respectively and comprising the remainder of Co.
CONSTITUTION: The permanent magnet material has a composition range comprising, in the wt% basis, 22.0≤Sm<24, 0.4≤Cu≤10.0, 14.0≤Fe≤35.0, 0.5≤Zr≤5.0 and the remainder Co. In said permanent magnet material, by selecting a ratio of a content of Co, Cu, Fe Zn of a ferromagnetic alloy based on a Sm2(CoFe)17 compound comprising Sm, Co, Cu, Fe and Zr in the aforementioned composition range, even if the content of Fe is increased, high coercive force can be obtained. Further, even if Zr in the aforementioned Sm-Co-Cu-Fe-Zr type alloy is replaced by Ti, Hf, or Nb, a perfectly similar result is obtained and a similar effect can be expected. As the result, a magnet having a capacity higher than that of a conventional one and a permanent magnet with good processability can be obtained.
