Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the S/N ratio, by constituting a head with an amorphous thin film Hall element consisting of an alloy including rare earth element and transition metal and with a ferromagnetic substance block clipping this.
CONSTITUTION: A thin film insulation layer 12 is formed on a ferromagnetic substance substrate 10 of the 1st core half piece, and a thin film 14 of GdCo etc. is formed with vapor deposition on it. Gd or the like is used as the rare earth element, and the ratio of the components is taken as 40% or less to form an easy magnetizing axis vertical to the film surface. A ferromagnetic substance block 24 of the 2nd core half piece is fitted to it so that the Hall element 15 is clipped and it is contained in a head block 26 through depression. Thus, current noise due to crystal grain field can be reduced because of amorphous thin film 14. Further, since the magnetic path length is short for the magnetic circuit, the magnetic flux ϕ passes through the thin film 14 with a good efficiency to improve S/N.
