Abstract

PURPOSE: The intermetallic compound permanent magnet of superior magnetic performance composed of A2B17 base compound (A is one or two or more kinds of Y, La, rare earth elements; B is one or two or more kinds of transition elements at least including Co or Fe.
CONSTITUTION: This 2:17 base magnet has high theoretical value of magnetic energy product and is able to yield the magnet of superior residual magnetic flux density. In addition, this magnet does not make use of simple crystal magnetic anisotropy and particularly in its coercive force mechanism, phase transformation and deposition intertwine intricately. Hence, light rare earth elements such as Sm, Pr, Ce, etc. may be utilized as rare earth elements but those mainly Co or Fe are frequently employed as transition elements. However, in order to make coercive force sufficient, other transition elements such as Cu; Mn, etc. are often added. This provides the tendency of slightly decreasing saturation magnetic flux density approximately evenly and conversely increasing coercive force considerably, thus the magnet of large energy product may be obtained.
