Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the magnetic characteristics of a precipitation hardening type misch metal (MM)-Co-Cu-(Fe) permanent magnet alloy based on MM-cobalt intermetallic cpds. by adding at least one of Zr, Hf, Nb and Ta to the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: The alloy compsn. of a permanent magnet is determined as follows: misch metal; 28W38 wt%, Cu; 5W25%, Co; 32W66.8% (less than 20% of which may be replaced with Fe) and at least one of Zr, Hf, Nb and Ta; 0.2W5%. Assuming the total amt. of Ce, La, Nd and Pr as the principal elements of the misch metal to be 100%, the elements are as follows: Ce; 40W60%, La; 20W40%, Nd; 5W20% and Pr; 2W10%. This permament magnet maintains its high coercive force even if the Cu content is low and the Fe content high.
