Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve an unevenness of a hysteresis curve and raise an energy product by adding a very minor amount of Si, Ti, Zr and others to an intermetallic compound of a rare eath metal and Co.
CONSTITUTION: A permanent magnet is formed by making use of the composition indicated by R(Co1-x-y-zFexCuyMz) A (where R; combination of one or more kings of rare earth metals, mainly Sm, Ce, M; combination of one or more kinds of Si, Ti, Zr, V, Nb, Cr, Mo, and Hf, and 0.01≤x≤0.40,0.02≤y≤0.25,0.001≤z≤ 0.15, and 6.5≤A≤8.3). The mixture having such compositions is molten at 1000°C or higher temperature utilizing an arc furnace and is gradually cooled at a speed of 0.05 to 10°C/min in the range from 700W900°C to 400°C.
