Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the moisture resistance, endurance and image characteristics of a photoconductive material by depositing silicic acid on the surface of photoconductive powder as a thin film followed by treatment with a silane coupling agent.
CONSTITUTION: Photoconductive powder such as CdS powder is dispersed in a weak alkali soln., and after adding silica sand or the like, hydrothermal treatment is carried out to deposite silicic acid on the surface of the powder as a thin film. The powder is then washed, filtered, and dried to obtain silicic acid coated powder. This powder is put in a soln. of a silane coupling agent in a water-alcohol mixture, agitated, filtered, dried, and cured. The silane coupling agent has a hydrolyzable group such as halogen, amino, OH or alkoxy. The resulting silane treated powder is dispersed in a binder to form a photoconductive layers. Thus, a photoreceptor is manufactured. Electric potential is well maintained even in an atmosphere of high humidity, and an image of a high contrast is formed.
