Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce ozone with high efficiency by irradiating an oxygen-contg. fluid with ultraviolet rays generated by discharge of a mixed gas of N2 or Br2 and He or Ar.
CONSTITUTION: N2 or Br2 is fed from gas inlet 2, and He or Ar from inlet 3. The internal press. of AC discharge tube 1 is lowered with vacuum pump 4. By applying a voltage to electrodes 5 rays of 1634 or 1743Å wavelength are generated. O2-contg. fluid 7 is dehumidified with dryer 8 and fed to reaction tube 6 to take out an ozonized oxygen-contg. fluid from outlet 9. Tube 6 is being water-cooled with cooler 10. Thus, the ozonization efficiency can be made higher than that of a conventional ultraviolet irradiation method. By lowering the temp. of the O2-contg. fluid the ozone yield is further raised. The temp. is esp. pref. -10°C or below.
