Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide amorphous alloy having a good strength, resistance against heat and corrosion, and good toughness by a method wherein molten alloy which contains a specific proportion of Fe gp. element and carbon is cooled at an extremly large cooling speed.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy is represented by a general formula XaCrbMcQd, where Xa is one or two of Co and Ni, or (a)atom% of Fe replacing a part of one or two of Co and Ni; Crb is (b)atom% of Cr; Mc is (c)atom% of one or more of Cr, Mo, W, V, Ta, and Mn; Qd is (d)atom% of a single C, or N replacing a part of C; with formula a+b+c+d=100 holding, and a; 16W86, b; 0W22, c; 4W38, and d; 10W26. The molten alloy of this composition is supplied onto a disk 3 or roller 4 rotating at a high speed, cooled at a cooling rate of 104W106°C/sec to provide an amorphous wire or plate material 2.
