Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an amorphous alloy contg. an iron group element and Hf a specified composition and having superior thermal stability, superior magnetic properties and characteristics of "Invar R".
CONSTITUTION: This amorphous alloy has a composition represented by the formula [where X100-c is (100-c) atomic% of one or more among Fe, Co and Ni, Zc is (c) atomic% Hf, and c=8W16]. Said metals are melted with a high-frequency furnace in an Ar atmosphere, and the melt is sprayed on the outside of a copper roll rotating at high speed from a nozzle and solidified by rapid cooling at about 105°C/sec cooling rate to obtain the alloy. The thermal stability of the alloy is shown by the figure by the relation between rupture sterss and aging temp. It is recognezed that the alloy is not made brittle even at high temp.
