Abstract

PURPOSE:To double the heat resistance, corrosion resistance, toughness, etc. of an iron or cast iron product by forming a Ni-Cr alloy film on the product surface followed by diffusion annealing. CONSTITUTION:An Ni-Cr alloy or an Ni-Cr-Fe alloy is adhered to the surface of an iron or cast iron product as base material by spraying, dipping or other method. The surface treated material is then diffusion-annealed by heating to 1000-1100 deg.C in an atmosphere furnace, a vacuum furnace or the like, whereby a Ni-Cr alloy layer is formed on the material surface to enhance the heat resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. By this very simple method an arbitrary Ni-Cr alloy film is formed which is about equal to tough stainless steel and heat resistant steel in heat resistance and corrosion resistance, and by diffusion annealing the film is strengthened to provent exfoliation.
