Abstract
PURPOSE:To diffuse Sn or Sn-Cu on steel material surface and improve corrosion resistance by forming an Sn film on the surface of an iron or steel material or Cu- plated iron or steel material, then heating the same to specific temperatures. CONSTITUTION:Sn is electroplated on the surface of an iron or steel product or Cu-plated iron or steel product. Next, it is heated to 770-1,120 deg.C in an atmosphere gas comprising CO, H2, N, etc., after which it is quickly cooled. The heating causes Sn or Sn-Cu to diffuse into the iron or steel material and the solid solution layer of alphaFe or gammaFe is formed depending upon the heating temperatures. The corrosion resistance of the iron or steel material by Sn is considerably improved by the formation of this Sn-Fe or Sn-Cu-Fe solid solution layer.
