Abstract

PURPOSE: To form an electrochromic layer of long life by heating the filament provided in the electrochromic material filled in a crucible or near the same and evaporating the electrochromic material on the electrodes provided on a substrate.
CONSTITUTION: Tungsten oxide 9 being electrochromic material is filled in an alumina crucible 12 and the tungsten filament 13 which is disposed so as to be buried therein is heated to allow the tungsten oxide 9 to evaporate and deposit on the transparent electrodes provided on a transparent glass substrate, whereby the electrochromic layer is formed. This results in the reduced entry of impurities, stronger deposition of the tungsten oxide on the electrodes, prolonged life and decreased conspicuousness of the color of the tungsten oxide film.
