Abstract

PURPOSE: To monitor the abnormality of plain bearing covering a wide area by providing an acoustic sensor that detects an elastic wave propagated in the slide bearing and by producing an alarm signal when the acoustic signal is larger than a reference value.
CONSTITUTION: When the magnitude of an elastic wave detected by the acoustic sensor is equal to or less than the value in the rotation speed at the time shown by the solid line in the Figure, the plain bearing is normal. The guide line in discriminating the normality or abnormality of the plain bearing is shown by the broken line in the Figure. The acoustic sensor 4 detects the magnitude of elastic wave propagated in the plain bearing 3 and converts it to an electric signal, which is amplified by the amplifier 5 and fed to the comparator 9. On the other hand, a pulse, the frequency of which is proportional to the rotation speed of the shaft 2, from the generator 6 is fed to the reference value generator 8. The comparator 9 produces an abnormality signal and makes the alarm 10 issue a warning for the abnormality of the plain bearing.
