Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the state of failure of a cutting tool in a cutting operation regardless of cutting conditions by a method wherein vibrations generated in the cutting opertion are detected as electrical signals and periods of revolution of the shaft are detected, too. CONSTITUTION:An electrical signal detected by a vibration detector 1 is compared with the preset value by a comparator 4 and only when a signal larger than preset value is inputted, one pulse is inputted to a pulse interval detector 5. The pulse interval value detected thereby is inputted to a subtractor 6. A detector of periods of revolution 7 detects the period of revolution of a main shaft and the value of the period is outputted to the subtractor 6. The output of the substractor 6 is inputted to the comparator 8 and compared with a preset value B. A control signal D indicating the state of failure of the tool is outputted from the comparator 8.
