Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect abnormal condition rapidly before the abnormality progresses in a sliding member by attaching AE detector to the fixed sliding member and detecting an acoustic signal generated by the sliding with AE detector.
CONSTITUTION: A balance sheet 2 is secured to a pump casing 1 and to an opposing face of the balance sheet 2, a balance disc 3 is secured to an axis 4. The balance sheet 2 and the balance disc 3 are respectively arranged so as to slide the respective end surfaces 2a and 3a through a thin water film. AE detector 5 is mounted on the balance sheet 2 and when sliding together with the balance disc 3, acoustic signal generated is detected. The acoustic signal detected by AE detector 5 is processed and the presence of the abnormal condition is judged.
